Reggae historian Klive Walker and dub poet Michael St. George to represent Canada at first ever Global Reggae Conference For the first time ever, Jamaica has officially declared February to be Reggae Month.

Encompassing the Global Reggae Conference (the largest event of its kind to ever hit Planet Earth), a massive music festival including Rita Marley's Africa Unite Concert and the first ever Reggae Academy Awards, the month’s festivities will bring together some of the finest artists this genre has produced. With a focus on promoting worldwide, Reggae Month is sure to go down in history – and two Toronto artists are helping make it happen.

Representing Canada at the Global Reggae Conference, reggae historian Klive Walker and dub poet Michael St. George will bring Canadian beats to the islands.

- On Wednesday, February 20, 5.30 – 7.00 pm at Assembly Hall, during the Plenary – Reggae in North America alongside Roger Steffens (USA), Toronto-based Reggae historian Klive Walker will deliver a keynote speech: “Reggae in Canada.” Author of Dubwise: Reasoning from the Reggae Underground

- On Thursday, February 21, 7.30 pm during the Evening Showcase at Oriental Gardens, UWI Poetry –“Tribute to Mikey Smith”, Michael St. George will deliver a stunning tribute to one of Jamaica’s most memorable dub poets, Mickey Smith. Smith remains a legendary figure in the dub scene. St. George will be part of a stellar group of performers including Oku Onuora Mutabaruka, Steppa, Mervyn Morris, Yasus Afari, Cherry Natural, Jazz'min Tutum, Marsha, among others.

“This conference looks to be very exciting as it will include several juicy topics related to Jamaican jazz, roots reggae, dancehall, film and reggae culture in general,” says Klive Walker.”
